[UPDATED] Deadpool test footage leaks online
San Diego Comic-Con wrapped up over the weekend, but somethings got the internets a buzzing that wasn't even there.
Apparently leaked test footage of Ryan Reynolds voicing a CGI Deadpool made its way online. The video is 1 minute 48 seconds and shows Deadpool in how a R rated movie would look. Initially some thought this might be a well made fan film, but it definitely sound like the voice of Reynolds in the video. The brief clip is believed to have been for a pitch to get the film a greenlight.
A Deadpool movie has been talked about ever since Reynolds appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was supposed to be an introduction for the character. JoBlo reports that the CGI was created in 2012 when VFX artist/director Tim Miller was attached to direct. Miller filmed some test footage for a Deadpool movie titled, "Merc with a Mouth". Tim Miller's Blur Studio is believed to have created the video for the Fox, Miller's Blur Studio previously worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World in 2010 among other things.
Lending credence to the whole thing being real is Rob Liefeld. At last years Comic-Con, the writer and artist gave a vivid description of the footage he was shown. His description is similar but not exact. Liefeld, as Kotaku points out, talked about an 8 minute clip, so 6 minutes are still unaccounted for.
UPDATED
Well I think Fox just made this real as they have pulled the video from YouTube in no time. Most links are going to get pulled then so try (The Devil's Eyes), wink wink nudge nudge. If all else fails, here's a short description of the footage below.
The video opens with Deadpool listening to and singing along with Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl. He is drawing something with crayons, that we don't see, sitting on top of an overpass freeway. Breaking the fourth wall almost immediately, he then looks at an approaching SUV of bad guys. He drops down through the sunroof (the music in the SUV is awesome), and begins taking them out. Throughout the fight in the SUV, Deadpool's humor shines along with good action.
Eventually the SUV catches the attention of a bad guy on a motorcycle in front of them. The guy on the motorcycle decides to turn around and begins to open fire on the now tumbling vehicle with Deadpool still in. The quick action suddenly goes into slo-mo as Deadpool sees the man shooting, holds up a piece of paper that you can’t made out in the video. The paper is probably similar to what Rob Liefeld saw in his video, Deadpool showing the guy how he was going to die. And then you hear a swipe as Deadpool grabs his katana while the SUV is flipping in the air above him.
Once the van finishes rolling, Deadpool opens the window, does a quick gag and the name DEADPOOL appears on screen. The last second Reynolds is speaking but the video cuts off and you can't hear what he is saying.
