This is what a Formula 1 car would sound like driving in London
Have you wondered what a Formula 1 car might sound like in London driving to Buckingham Palace, well someone did.
24 Acoustics Ltd, a company that helps to obtain practical and cost-effective advice to resolve noise and vibration problems, came up with the idea.
Using an aerial Google maps view, you can see the different noise levels produced by the Formula 1 engine. Green is still considered mainly quiet, but going up the scale from yellow, red to a very loud pink. In the video you can see how the buildings block some of the noise and make a shadow on the map. So did they really drive a Formula 1 car to Buckingham Palace, sadly no.
The consulting company used data from previous years' with similar straightaways and corners, collecting speed and deceleration.
"Formula 1 cars in 2013 produced noise levels in excess of 120 decibels in close proximity. The animation from 24 Acoustics is made up from a series of noise maps, each incorporating a unique speed, location and source noise level from the car. The team at 24 Acoustics created more than 1,200 individual noise maps, comprising a total of 221 million data points, to produce the animation."
