Google Search shows instructions with how-to searches

Curiouser and curiouser. Google's knowledge graph is there to help get answers at a glance.

Curious about Theodore Roosevelt. The knowledge graph can provide pictures, birth and death info, Presidential term, awards, nicknames, and books written. But about if you asked a question that was provided within the knowledge graph, for example "when was Theodore Roosevelt elected President". Well then you might get something like this "The United States presidential election of 1904 was the 30th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 1904. Incumbent President and Republican candidate Theodore Roosevelt was elected to a full term. Roosevelt had succeeded to the presidency upon the assassination of William McKinley."

So simple enough. Answers that have been given already within the graph can be presented, but what about how-tos. Search for "how to make egg drop soup" and you'll now get a quick instruction recipe.

Some of the examples that Google Operating System points out are:

  • Gmail export contacts
  • iCloud restore
  • how to remove a popcorn ceiling
  • how to install a toilet
  • how to change a tire
  • how to boil eggs

The instructions appear to be displayed from the top search result website. Mileage will vary on what searches get you instructions, so have fun.
